TAHBILK ‘2016 WINERY OF THE YEAR’

The Wine Company are very proud to announce… Tahbilk was last night announced as the 2016 Winery of the Year at the James Halliday Wine Companion Awards ceremony in Melbourne. Held at the iconic Melbourne Museum in the presence of the Premier of Victoria Hon. Daniel Andrews, Former Premier of Victoria Jeff Kennett, his wife Felicity, and guests from a broad cross section of Australia’s wine industry, James Halliday presented the award to Alister Purbrick, fourth generation CEO and winemaker of Tahbilk. Alister attended the awards with his artist wife, Rosa. The awards are traditionally held the night before the launch of the James Halliday Australian Wine Companion, Australia’s foremost wine ‘bible’. First awarded in 2009, the award is recognised by the broader wine industry as the ultimate achievement of a life in wine. Following presentation of the award, Alister said, “When my great-grandfather Reginald Purbrick purchased the Tahbilk property in 1925, he would not in his wildest dreams have imagined receiving such an accolade. This means so much to our family and to be able to continue his original vision for Tahbilk, and accept such an esteemed award from our own living wine legend, James Halliday, is a great honour. I feel incredibly proud of all that the Purbrick family has achieved at Tahbilk over the generations and this award recognises our unswerving commitment to traditional winemaking whilst using innovative and sustainable viticultural practices. This is definitely one for the team at Tahbilk and I thank everyone who has made a contribution over our 155 years of existence.” Tahbilk – 2016 Winery of the Year “When brooding about...

Wow Factor Wine

The 2013 McHenry Hohnen Rocky Road Vineyard Chardonnay  has been featured in James Halliday’s 2015 Wow Factor Whites supplement awarded a huge 95 Points! Whole bunch-pressed, natural yeast, matured in French barriques (20% new) for 10 months. While well and truly elegant, is a little  more open, white peach first up, grapefruit in hot pursuit; shakes itself off on the aftertaste in best canine fashion. 13.5% alc. The McHenry Hohnen Chardonnay has that wow factor because  of the interaction of a cooler southern site, heavy ironstone gravels, sloping terrain and a northerly aspect combine to produce a powerful yet refined example of Margaret River Chardonnay.  Sustainably farmed and dry-grown, fruit is hand-harvested, whole bunch-pressed, barrel fermented with no additions and bottled with minimal sulphur. Yealands Estate Press Announcement

Yealands Estate Press Announcement

Press Release New investment in Yealands a win for Marlborough Marlborough Lines has agreed to invest $89 million to purchase an 80% shareholding in Yealands Wine Group, the two companies announced today. Yealands Wine Group founder Peter Yealands welcomed the investment: “In looking for an investor we wanted someone who shared our beliefs and who would help us to continue to build the business, both in expanding our fruit supply and in developing our international marketing programme.” Marlborough Lines Managing Director Ken Forrest said the purchase is a good investment for the Company and will provide increased dividends to consumers. It will also provide long-term economic and social benefits to the region. Mr Forrest said Marlborough Lines had realised profits of over $100 m from investments which up until recently had been held outside the region, and the investment in Yealands provides an opportunity to reinvest locally. “Opportunities to invest in the electricity industry are limited and this led to us looking to other options. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to acquire an 80% interest in Yealands,” Mr Forrest said. “We have received independent advice and carried out a comprehensive review of Yealands’ business and have been impressed with their achievements, particularly in light of their relatively short existence, and with their ambitious plans for growth. We are satisfied that this will be a successful investment which will broaden our asset base for the benefit of the people of Marlborough. We are pleased to be able to demonstrate our confidence in the future of Marlborough’s most important industry,” Mr Forrest said. Marlborough Electric Power Trust Chair Ross Inder says the investment...
